It is now second day since nestlings grew up and flew away. It is so quite on the balcony now.
The whole Saturday birds parents were trying to get their kids out of the birds house, out of the nest. It was nature miracle to watch. I’ve filmed some of it, some of it you had to see. Basically parents were calling them from the branch on outside of our balcony and teasing them with food - bugs and ants. They would fly very close to the nest, where those hungry nestlings were going crazy loud, and fly back on the tree. They would sit on the brick wall, right next to the birds house, calling nestlings out.
Ant then, in a split second, nestling would fly out… and once he’s gone - he is gone…
Sunday morning, parents were still working on getting rest of them out of the nest, and by 11am all were gone. It is empty nest now, and they will not be back until next year to grow their family once again.
Sunday, while having barbeque outside, I showed video on my iPhone to my father. You could clearly hear birds in that video, and one of the parents, I guess, flew and sit on the branch right next to us. I guess they were a bit worrying that some of their kids were left behind.
It’s been almost a week from my first posting of new birds family that now lives on our balcony in the birds house. Nestlings have grown up, and might fly any day now. Mom and dad are still caring for them - bringing bugs, removing escrements - doing what good parents do for their kids.
It is sad, that pretty soon, one day I walk out on balcony and the whole family will be gone. And it will not be until next year till they come back.
For now, I will make sure I try to film them everyday to get a last glimpse at this nature wonder.
First it was Macbook, now it’s iPhone that took off the ground and flew away.
Well, actually, it’s a bit different. Macbook flew due to 3d rendering, iPhone due to RC controller. Check out this cool video of crazy guys who strapped iPhone to the belly of RC plane.
iPhone has troubles focusing and you might reduce volume, as it’s just bunch of static noise once it takes off.
I guess it is yearly thing now, our new tenants have had their nestlings couple of weeks ago and now are working full swing trying to feed them. It is pretty hard job for this family, not sure how many nestlings are there, but by the noise they are making - there are quite a bit.
I’ve decided not to disturb them this year and just film from outside. Here is what came out of it:

After shooting Anthony Sedlak at Eat! Vancouver show Friday night, I’ve imported footage from my Sanyo Xacti HD1010 into iMovie 09. I was so happy that by converting .mp4 files into .mov it actually reduces size by 50%. The truth was - it only imported half of the clip.
