Well, I’m back! FileMaker DevCon was a blast! Educational - maybe, inspirational - definitely!

One of the coolest things I’ve learned from it is that FileMaker is not boring database piece of software, numbers, tables, records, calculations - you can do cool things with them, all of them!
Those outside of North America figured out a way of connecting power and ease of FileMaker databasing (I know it’s not a word, but I will use it) with coolness of latest JS technologies. AJAX, Flex, CSS - I’ll be there…
Looking back at my experience as web designer/developer I found new tool that an crunch numbers in the background while delivering rich experience to end-users.
Now I just have to finish with servers and move on to FileMaker development… and I will develop

After just one month, I can say - new place definitely brings new challenges…

All those independent consultants, let me tell you something - when you set a company with servers, network etc. make sure you set it up as your own… What I mean? Simple, looking at what I have to deal with currently - servers are set up as part of some kind of crazy experiment - “can we do it?”
I remember my first server with 10.4 I’ve set up at Abbotsford Times, at least I got a lot of support from Apple Canada, thank you Brian. These servers, DNS settings, computer setup - a nightmare…
Servers need to be rebuilt - why would you change users IDs? - DNS needs to be reconfigured - no need for .ca domain, we will not host web nor email servers…
Oh, by the way, I’m writing this while seated at the United airplane.. en-route from San Diego to Phoenix for FileMaker Developers Conference - another challenge I would have to face, once back to Van, BC - I’m not sure if FileMaker server was configured correctly, knowing it was same people setting it up…
Enough negative, flight is being delayed, blood is boiling, relax Anton, relax…
